Musik: Via Antarctica – The Violent Years

Bei manchen Bands setzt allein der Name schon ein Ausrufungszeichen. So zum Beispiel im Fall von The Violent Years aus dem kleinen Mandal in Norwegen. Dieses verschlafene Nest am Meer brachte eine Indieband hervor, die sich dem allseits beliebten Americana-Sound verschrieben hat.

The Violent Years – eine Post-Punk-Band

The Violent Years lassen sich vom Post-Punk inspirieren und arrangieren ihn zusammen mit weiteren Elementen zu ihrer unverwechselbaren Handschrift. „Our music is Americana, 80s pop, post-punk and it`s all marinated in The Beatles chords and harmonies! We are very melodic and harsh at the same time. As a kid I was listening to Beatles a lot and fell in love with their creative use of sounds etc. The problem was I could not sing as high and clear as them so it was Cohen, Cave and Scott Walker that made me sing!”

Dunkel und monumental

Das alles bannten The Violent Years auf ihrem dritten Album „Via Antarctica“. So ganz planmäßig konnte die Platte allerdings nicht fertiggestellt werden, denn bei einem Einbruch wurden alle Daten gestohlen. Dennoch ließen sich die Norweger davon nicht aus der Bahn werfen. “Via antarctica was in fact made before “Blame” but we had a robbery where the files got stolen. Feeling destroyed by all the shit that followed we made the blame album. Then we rebuild the via album. It was a painful and hard thing to do because you have to find back to the emotions that made the songs in the first place. Luckily the drums and some other parts were on a backup-disc!”
Zum Glück für die Fans von Bands wie Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, The Black Heart Procession, Steve Earl oder 16 Horsepower. Denn The Violent Years treten mit „Via Antarctica“ in diese Fußstapfen mit dunklem und monumentalen Darkpop. Progressive E-Gitarren werden von starken Drums begleitet. Das ist handgemachter Postpunk ohne elektronische Spielereien – lautstark, mitreißend und gefällig verpackt.
