Musik: Where’s The Magic – Zurück in die Zukunft mit Band of Gold

Eine Band aus Gold, das dachte sich auch die Jury, welche Band of Gold als erste norwegische Band überhaupt den Nordic Music Prize verlieh. Die Auszeichnung erhielten die Musiker im Jahr 2016 für ihr Debütalbum. Nun melden sich Nikolai Hængsle und Nina Elisabeth Mortvedt mit „Where’s The Magic“ zurück. Die Platte erscheint am 23. März bei Jansen Records.

Die Platte bringt uns, wie schon die Single „I Wanna Dance With You Again“, mit viel Leidenschaft die Achtziger zurück.

There’s a hand around my heart 

And it’s tearing me apart and 

I see you wave across the room 

I see us whirl across the room 

Das Duo Band of Gold hat zur Entstehung ihres aktuellen Werkes folgende Geschichte parat: „Where´s the magic is eight individual songs, and each has its own story. Some have been pure joy to record, and others have gone through passionate discussions and shaky chins. But the result is eight 100% heartfelt songs, each of equal importance to us.“

 

Eingängig und vielseitig

Es steckt also viel Herzblut in den Aufnahmen, was man beim Hören des Albums gut nachfühlen kann. Die Titel decken vom mystisch romantischen Indie-Pop mit akustischer Gitarrenbegleitung bis zum klassischen Synthie-Pop der 70er und 80er ein breites Spektrum ab. Zu den eher akustisch geprägten Songs zählt „Into The Void“. Sängerin Nina Elisabeth Mortvedt hierzu:

„While most of the songs have been recorded with «real» equipment, meant for album recordings, „Into The Void“ is the joker on the album. „Into The Void“ is the wild and «untamable» one, from back when Nikolai (Hængsle), Reine (Fiske) and I went on a rehearsal weekend in a little cabin in the Norwegian forest a couple of years ago. Niko, almost by accident, happened to press «rec» on his little tape recorder, and all of a sudden „Into The Void“ just happened. Very demo, and impossible to mix, but we needed to keep it that way.“ 

Dabei behalten Band of Gold immer ihren eigenen Stil, was bei der Flut von Indie – Musik besonders wichtig ist, um langfristig Erfolg zu haben. Der Wiedererkennungswert ist hoch. 

„Wanna Dance With You Again“ steht für den besagten Synthesizer-Sound der so wunderbar an Fleetwood Mac erinnert. Ein echter Ohrwurm eingängig und in sich stimmig. Damit haben es Band of Gold bis ins Programm von NDR 2 geschafft. Wenn das keine zusätzliche Kaufempfehlung für „Where’s The Magic“ ist.
